The Global Talent Visa Program is not a points-based visa programme; instead, candidates must be nominated by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or an Australian organization that can vouch for the candidates’ internationally recognized record of extraordinary and outstanding achievements. While it might be difficult to locate a nominator if you have not worked or studied in Australia and do not have established networks, endorsement by the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy is available in restricted situations. If awarded a category 858 visa, the candidates must establish their expected considerable contribution to the Australian economy.
The Global Talent visa seeks applicants with an internationally recognized record of extraordinary and outstanding success in a profession, athletics, the arts, or academics and research. The global talent visa programme makes use of the visa’s “profession” or “academic and research” components.
It also requires that the applicant remain prominent in the area, be an asset to the Australian community, demonstrates that they would have no difficulty obtaining employment (or establishing themselves independently) in the area, and be nominated by an Australian individual or organization with a national reputation in the area. There are no age restrictions for candidates. However, if an applicant is under the age of 18 or over the age of 55, an extraordinary benefit to Australian society must be demonstrated.To be eligible for this programme, a candidate must fall into one of the ten targeted sectors listed above, have an “internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement” in their field, and either be able to attract a salary equivalent to the Fair Work High Income Threshold (FWHIT) or have completed their PhD within the last three years (degree conferred). Functional English skills are necessary for all visa applicants who are 18 or older at the time of application. If applicants do not achieve the minimal English skills criteria, they must pay a second instalment cost before visa issuance.
If you do not meet the requirements listed above, you will be ineligible for this programme.
